Hypnosis for Weight Loss? Yes, absolutley

I’m going to talk to you a bit about how hypnosis can help with weight loss.  An article in the Journal of the American Medical Association, published way back in January 2005 by investigators from Tufts-New England Medical Center (I know ‘Centre’ is ‘re’ but it’s American English… init), outlined in detail a study of the four most popular diet plans.   It was a study of 160 overweight adults over a full one year period.  The researchers split people into four diet plan groups and I expect, if you’re reading this, you will have heard of them or even tried some, you might be on one now:

  • Weight Watchers (low calorie)
  • The Zone Diet (low glycemic index)
  • The Ornish Diet (low fat)
  • The Atkins Diet (low carb)

No prizes for guessing that Continue reading

Basics of Management

In my experience, many managers find it difficult and even frustrating to manage their team of people.  Some might procrastinate so much that a situation grows arms and legs until there are huge difficulties.  Many then try to solve the issue(s) in one foul swoop in a monster meeting.  This still happens in business, so here are some steps you could take that might help you: Continue reading

5 Things to do before the year is out…

1.  Do something amazing… give blood.  That’s what they say.  Did you know that 96% of the UK population rely on the other 4% to give blood?  NHS supplies are always low.  Why not register to give blood in your local area or even at work?          Visit www.blood.co.uk

2.  Stop smoking… forever.  Kick that habit.  You are 4 times more likely to stop with support. Continue reading

Confidence Tips for Trainers & Presenters

I’ve been doing this stuff a while now and I still get butterflies before delivering a course. It’s inevitable, especially if I’ve designed it from scratch.  It’s almost as if the design process has added to the building up of pressure.  This is why I rate being a trainer as one of those on the high pressure job list.  Whether or not you are a professional trainer, if you find yourself having to deliver anything then I’ve written some confidence boosting tips that I hope will help. Stop Smoking

I’ll be honest; I’ve never really understood how most smokers are quite aware of the dangers of smoking to themselves, and others, and yet continue to smoke.  They’re also well aware of the direct benefits to their health if they stopped. There are loads of solutions if you’re really serious about giving up.

It’s kind of obvious that the key to stopping is to break the addiction to and the addictive effects of the drug nicotine. A lot of companies produce nicotine replacement pills and patches which have been shown to be relatively effective in helping people to get off cigarettes. However, there is one more alternative that achieves far better results. Continue reading

L&D – The Learning Culture

I haven’t really written much on the Learning & Development side have I? Time to remedy that now. Seeing as though I’ve been involved in the learning tree for over 25 years, I think I might have a little something worthwhile somewhere in my head for you to read.

There’s loads of stuff out there about L&D and ways of increasing its effectiveness.  I’d say the biggest challenge for any training professional is to ensure a high level of transfer of knowledge into the workplace.  How much really sticks?  How many people will use this stuff?  These are questions that should stick with (and haunt) any good trainer for the duration of his/her career.  The sooner you ask yourself these questions the sooner you’ll be on the road to delivering impactful training.

Having said that, it’s not much use if the learning capability of an organisation is weak.  An organisation’s learning capability is a term used to describe its opportunities for learning.  How many trainers?  What sort of training facilities and access to them?  Areas such as learning sponsorship, support from managers etc. are also included.  A learning culture should to be strong and I would advise against working in a company that doesn’t promote learning…you’re flogging a dead horse there. Use ‘Towards’ Language

Anyone who knows anything about NLP will know that our language affects our behaviour.

The words we use, especially the verbs, during conversation can make or break what you’re trying to achieve.

Here’s how you increase your chances of success – Use ‘towards language’ whenever possible.

As the name suggests, this is the type of language that ‘moves forward’ – it moves towards a goal or achievement and not ‘away’ from it. Words such as achieve, attain, obtain, acquire, benefits, advantages are all good examples of ‘towards language’.  Get the picture?

Here’s a life example for parents:

You want sooo much to motivate your child to study harder? Continue reading
